Scarab beetle earrings
Scarab beetle earrings
Ancient Egypt inspired earrings: the stones are two beautiful turquoise cabochon I bought in Luxor during one of my trips. The cabochons are cut in the shape of scarab beetles, which according to Egyptian mythology bring good luck and protect their wearer.
The earrings are in silver with brass details. The circles at the bottom symbolise the sun cycle. They both complement the blue tone of the stones and add meaning to this piece: the legend says that the God Ra, the sun, rises every day and every day disappears beyond the horizon, in a perpetual cycle of birth and death. The scarab beetle represents this cycle and is the animal associated to the solar God, reason why it is often represented in wall paintings and relieves. It is a powerful symbol and a beloved lucky charm, even nowadays.
